Start small, Dream Big: Creating online content

About a month ago, I got stuck in a YouTube rabbit hole and as you know, when searching one topic, the algorithm will dish out a huge amount of content for you to watch.

I initially searched for 'How to make cinematic videos' because I wanted to compile all my holiday footage into a nice video. This slowly turned into 'How to make YouTube videos' which slowly turned into 'How to become a Content Creator'...etc. All of which led me to the conclusion that I should at least try my luck on YouTube, if it works, great, if not, ah well, at least I tried.

There were four things I learned after watching these videos:

  1. YouTube works - When I was watching the videos, I felt like I was actually learning something and I wasn't a waste of my time, which in turn made me want to watch more videos. If this is the impact it was having on me, then I'd like to think I could also contribute.
  2. It's actually not that hard to start a making videos to upload to YouTube.
  3. The common and key theme across all these videos are: consistency, motivation & determination. Oh, and of course passion.
  4. You don't need a niche on day 1. Just record anything and everything you want to share. That's it!

Using all these points, I found some motivation and started by recording on my phone. It took a few weeks to figure out what I wanted to do, because in reality, things that are normal will seem so boring and mundane, but soon you realise that perhaps it's the little mundane things people might be interested in. I made a few different YouTube Shorts, some did well (i.e. got 1k views in a few hours) and others have barely been seen and funnily enough it was a Short of me making my breakfast that has the most views right now. My first proper video on YouTube was just some footage I bundled together from the Berlin Asian Art Museum, which I overlayed with some music. Of course, I wasn't expecting anything big from it, but this confirmed two things; I enjoy creating, producing and publishing content and this is most definitely my favourite hobby so far.

Subscribe if you wish to keep updated on my progress and I hope you have a lovely day.
